Benitez to Inter - It Seems Inevitable Now

Is this our future?!?

Yep. Moratti has spoken. Rafa Benitez will be Inter's new coach. We all saw this coming but, like me, I suspect many of you were hoping for a last minute reprieve.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, President Moratti has said Benitez will be the next coach of Inter:

"Ho scelto l'allenatore, e sarà Rafa Benitez. La mia decisione è caduta su di lui perchè ha già vinto in Europa, e può ripetersi anche con l'Inter, visto che noi vogliamo ripeterci".

"I have chosen the coach and it will be Rafa Benitez. My decision fell on him because he has already won in Europe and can repeat that also with Inter, because we want to repeat."

and here it is from La Gazzetta as well

La Gazzetta also says Benitez to Inter

"Moratti has decided: it is Benitez. A free road to Branca to meet with Rafa today. Tuesday the signature."

At least one Inter player seems keen on the move, Walter Samuel is quoted in the press as saying: “Benitez is a Coach with real personality, just what we needed after Jose Mourinho. He certainly knows how to work within a high-pressure locker room environment.”

It is going to take some getting used to. Both Roberto Mancini and Jose Mourinho were attractive and suave with fabulous hair. Not so, Rafa. Maybe that is all part of the mystique, though. His reputation as being sort of dumpy and bumbling, maybe it is all a ruse so no one takes him seriously - sort of like Columbo. He always came out ahead in the end.

Either way, it is a bit like someone took away your Maserati and gave you a Honda Accord. Sure, the Honda is incredibly reliable and will always get you from A to B, but come on, everyone knows you would rather have the Maserati. Even if the Maserati was broken half the time.

So, everyone take a deep breath and try to give this guy a chance. He may surprise us... In a good way, I mean.
