The Lega Serie A draw has determined the ties for the first and second knock-out rounds of the Tim Cup, before Inter join in the third round on 17 August. Perugia and Savona have been drawn together in round one, with the winner meeting Cittadella on 11 August. The side that comes through that clash will have the honour of meeting the Nerazzurri.

32 clubs will participate in round 3: the 20 clubs that qualify from the second knock-out round, the sides that finished ninth to 18th in Serie A 2012/13, along with the three newly-promoted teams from Serie B.

The 16 winners from round three (one-off tie) will go into the draw for round 4 which will be played on 4 December 2013.

In the last 16, the eight winners from the fourth round will be joined by the eight seeds (top 8 from last season's Serie A), with matches taking place on 9 January 2014.

The quarter-finals have been set for 22 January 2014, while the semi-finals – the only round to feature a two-legged tie – will be played on 5 and 12 February 2014, before the final in Rome on 3 May 2014.

I don’t have anything else to add to this other than as far as I am concerned, these are really just glorified friendlies – although these friendlies would need to be won to avoid embarrassment. It’s also worth considering that the Coppa Italia is a competition in which this team can actually make noise
