Danilo D'Ambrosio is a rarity among present day athletes. Unlike many sports personalities who have made headlines for all the wrong reasons due to "mishaps" on social media platforms, the Inter defender has chosen to use his status as a professional athlete to help people who are in need.
One week has passed since D'Ambrosio launched his twitter account (@ddambrosio), as well as his first philanthropic act tied to his presence on social media. On April 16, he announced he would donate €0,50 for every person who followed him on Twitter to the Aiutare i Bambini Foundation and specifically, the "Giovani al lavoro" project.
Per ogni follower che riceverò donerò €0,50 ad @aiutareibambini per i progetti in Campania "Giovani al lavoro"! #Twitter4good

"Giovani al lavoro" translates to "Young People at Work" and directly benefits D'Ambrosio's hometown of Napoli and the surrounding Campania region. As the defender explained on the Alfonso Signorini Show (and subsequently transcripted on the Inter site), the project helps young adults who have left school by giving them grants and financial aid to take courses that will help them acclimate to the working world.
By the morning of April 23, Danilo had over 23,000 followers on Twitter and donated 11.500€ (nearly $16,000) to Aiutare i Bambini.
