The transfer window is quickly coming to a close. And given Inter's current need in defense, it's no surprise that the names of a few defenders have been heavily linked with the club in the past few days.
One such player is Rhodolfo, a 28-year-old Brazilian international who plays for Brazilian side Gremio. Rumors began to circulate earlier this week (h/t Sempre Inter) claiming that Inter was close to a deal with Rhodolfo, but the player's club quickly poured cold water on those rumors, saying they had no desire to let the player leave at this time.
However, another report surfaced early this morning which claims that Gremio would be open to negotiating a deal for Rhodolfo, so long as Inter are willing to buy the Brazilian player outright. According to Sky (via Sempre Inter), Inter had initially offered to take Rhodolfo on loan after paying a €500,000 fee, with a €3-4 million redemption fee to be paid in June.
It will be interesting to see what Mancini and Ausilio do here. Colombian defender Jeison Murillo will be on his way to the San Siro from Spanish side Granada this summer. But unfortunately, Murillo will not be coming to the San Siro in January, and Inter have an immediate need in defense that they need to fill now.
It would be a surprise if they choose to purchase any defender outright at this point, mostly because of the impending arrival of Murillo in June. But Mancini has a difficult choice to make which will affect the club's short-term success. Let's hope he makes the right one.
