Sources in and Italy have claimed that Inter Milan may be looking to convince Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta to return to Milan sometime this month.
Acording to Motta's agent, the former Nerazzurri player is unhappy in Paris due to a lack of clarity from the organization regarding his future at the club and has reportedly drawn interest from cross-town rivals AC Milan as well.
The deal to bring the 32-year-old Italian international back to Inter seems to have materialized mostly out of English side Liverpool's reluctance to sell defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva.
A serious Inter pursuit of Motta at this would certainly beg a few questions - mainly, why? At this point in Motta's career, he certainly does not measure up to the recent names Ausilio has managed to bring to the club. A Motta signing would likely be a big "meh" after the Nerazzurri parade that was #ShaqiriDay.
This seems most likely to be a simple fall-back plan should Leiva not work out, But I even have to ask myself why Inter are pursuing that deal so fervently. Why are we chasing DMs at all unless they are world-class? Inter already have a fair amount of talent at the position in M'Vila anyway.
It would make more sense to me (and to a lot of Interisti) if Ausilio and company went out to look for a rock solid defender now. The attack is looking great. The midfield's work-rate should be enough on the defensive end as well. Why not bolster the back line in order to make new speedster (Shaqiri) and our new left-footed sniper (Poldi) a real counterattacking threat?
In my opinion, a loan for either an established out-of-work defender or a talented young fullback looking for more minutes would make the most sense. What about you guys? What would you think of a Motta signing? Or a Leiva signing? Who would you like to see Ausilio go out and get next?
