Icardi may or may not be a Nerazzurro next season and Inter want to be prepared for both possibilities. Piero Ausilio was a guest on Sky Sport Italia this week and share his thoughts on Jovetic:
Dreams are beautiful, I'm trying to prepare something and I hope my dreams come true. Jovetic? In the past there was something, especially last summer. We had gone quite a bit forward in the negotiations, we were hoping to conclude the deal but then Negredo became injured and Manchester City changed their mindsHe is a great player, he fits the profile of the player we are looking for. He is not very young but he is fully mature and still has a lot to give.
The Montenegrin played 4 seasons at Fiorentina and he showed all his talent and skills year after year: in his first Italian season (2008/09) Stevan played 29 Serie A games, scoring 2 goals - coming off the bench 10 times - , in the second one he played the same amount of matches with 6 goals scored; the third one was his breakout season, playing less games than the previous ones, 26, while scoring 14 goals; In his last Italian campaign he confirmed what he showed the previous year, playing 31 Serie A games and scoring 13 goals along with 5 assists.
His relationship with the Citizens' management has deteriorated a lot throughout the time, and his appearances in 2 years are the mirror of that: he played only 44 games while at Manchester, in all competitions. Ausilio would like to use that hostility between the parts to buy the player at a lower price than his real value.
Jovetic proved in his career to be a valuable second striker or center-forward as well, so it would be a good move both if Icardi leaves us (I hope not), taking Maurito's place, or if he choose to renew the contract with Inter, playing as his right-hand man.
Jovetic is only 25 years old, even if it seems he has been playing for a very long time, so it would be a good move for the future too. According to transfermarkt his value floats around €28 Million and he has been acquired by City for €26 Million 2 seasons ago. FoxSports reported that Inter offered Jovetic a 4-year €3.5 Million contract and they would prefer a loan-to-buy deal worth between €18-20 Million instead of buying him directly.
Personally, I would buy him. €20 Million is an adequate price for him and he is young but he already amassed some international experience, plus he is a good scorer and he can play with the team as well. I think he and Icardi, paired up, would make an extremely threatening and skilled duo, which could cause problems at almost every defense.
