With Paulo Dybala all but gone to Juventus that other Italian side, Inter are forced to turn their eye to other striker prospects on the market. Man City's Stevan Jovetic is one name that has repeatedly come up over the last several weeks and which would make sense for Inter in terms of both his ability and his cost.
But recently, Inter have again been linked with one of the Premier League's potential hidden gems – Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela. I'll be the first to admit that, broadly, Lamela has not yet produced a solid season across the board. What he certainly has done is shown flashes of great skill and excited the Spurs supporters on several occasions.
But we have to keep in mind that the Argentine striker is still only 23 years old and has plenty of time to grow into his potential. The pressing question is: would partnering Lamela (23) with fellow countryman Icardi (22) create a strike duo more like Iron Man & War Machine or that of Wolverine & Nightcrawler? One pairing results in a sharp and efficient attack team that gets the job done. The other is more like a couple of drinking buddies that fight super villains on the side when it's convenient.
Say this about Lamela: he is extremely versatile. Now that Icardi has begun to really find his identity with the new Inter personnel, adding a versatile player like Lamela to the mix could produce excellent results. Obviously, we'd have to land him first.
What do you think readers? Thumbs up or thumbs down on Erik Lamela?
