Inter guaranteed Europa League for the 16/17 season

Results this weekend guarantee that Inter will be returning to Europe's secondary competition next season.

From the start of the season the goal for Inter was to return to the Champions League. Roma's win against Napoli not only handed Juventus another Scudetto but almost 100% guaranteed that Inter will not be able to acheive that goal. While that does put a damper on things other results have made it mathematically impossible for Inter to fail to reach the Europa League for next season.

Milan's loss to Hellas Verona means they are now 11 points behind with only three games remaining. Now Inter cannot fall below 5th place so a spot in the Europa League is assured. Also Fiorentina lost to Juventus this weekend so the Nerazzurri have a five point gap over the Tuscan side and are now in a relatively comfortable position in fourth place.

It is disappointing that Inter will not be returning to the Champions League but this season has seen the team improve massively. Last season Inter finished in 8th place with 55 points, and now the team has 64 points with three matches left still. With the impeding arrival of new investment the team will improve even more this summer and I am sure that it will not be long before we can see Inter back where she belongs, playing in the Champions League.
