Today Caner Erkin was presented as an Inter player and while his introduction was important, sporting director Piero Ausilio stole the show by being pretty honest about the club's transfer plans. He spoke about the bombshell Wanda Nara dropped yesterday about Mauro Icardi, then discussed the futures of Juan Jesus, Davide Santon, and a couple of the players Inter has been pursuing so far this summer.
Speaking on the Icardi situation, Ausilio reaffirmed that the 23 year old had just renewed his contract last year, that he is the club captain, and that Inter has no plans to sell him. Like club president Erick Thohir, Ausilio mentioned that Icardi is one of the club's "untouchables" and that the discussion Wanda Nara had yesterday about contracts and wages should have been done privately with the club. He also spoke on Juan Jesus's situation, confirming that they are in advanced talks with AS Roma over the Brazilian's move but would not say how close a deal was to completion. Another player who seemed close to the exit door was Davide Santon, but after his move to Sunderland fell apart at the finish line his situation is a little unclear. Ausilio talked about how there is a lot of competition at the full-back position right now and he understands Santon's need to assess his options in his search for consistent playing time, though he has returned to Inter to continue taking part in their pre-season training. He also spared a word for Jeison Murillo just to confirm that there have been no negotiations with other clubs about a transfer (thankfully).
Moving on to players that have been rumored to arrive at the San Siro, Ausilio pretty much ended further links to Domenico Berardi and Antonio Candreva. In the case of Berardi he admitted that they spoke to Sassuolo but received a resounding no from the club. With Candreva it seems that Inter did not even officially sit at the table with Lazio since Lotito's demands put him outside of their economic parameters. Ausilio did confirm that the club has presented an offer to Gabriel Jesus and are waiting to hear his response, though he cautioned that there are other clubs vying for his services that even started before Inter so he cannot guarantee that things will work out there. Ausilio did also mention Joao Mario, the Sporting CP midfielder who just won Euro 2016 with Portugal. There have been a couple of reports linking him with a move to Inter and Ausilio confirmed that the club is interested in him, though the high price-tag for the 23 year old coming off this tournament right now will make a move difficult.
