The sweepstakes for Inter’s Éver Banega

Teams are lining up for the Argentina international … apparently.

Just as we thought only Everton MIGHT be interested in Éver Banega, suddenly up to three teams outside Serie A have reportedly expressed some interest.

We reported Friday that Banega was part of some window shopping being done by Everton. The Toffies sent a team to Milan to look at about six or seven different players between the Nerazzurri and rivals AC Milan.

Football-italia.net and other outlets are now reporting that Espanyol have started to track the Argentinian since his fall from grace at the San Siro.

On top of that, the site earlier found that Mexican club Tigres UANL of Liga MX said Banega was “part of a number of options we are evaluating.”

“Banega is a very famous player on the international scene, but these are names that we are evaluating and I prefer not to talk about one rather than another,” director Miguel Angel Garza told Players Mexico.

“He is part of a number of options were are evaluating and that need work before they can come through.

“It’s natural that many names appear in the newspapers, but we have to carefully look at what we need, in what areas of the team and above all what the options are.”

The Argentinian came to Inter on free transfer from Sevilla FC in 2016 and notched six goals and eight assists this past season for the Nerazzurri. According to Transfermrkt.com, Banega has a market value of €16 million.

Reports suggest Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is looking at up to €20 million for Banega, which may turn teams like Espanyol off. Sky Sport Italia said Espanyol is tracking Banega but even a price tag of €12 million has them hesitant to pull the trigger.

Despite his so-so production last season, it is clear he is not likely to factor into Spalletti’s plans of the club. The goal now is to try to get as much as they can for him to help with the financial fair play raise due at the end of the month.
