Inter Milan forward Keita Balde was likely to showcase for his native Senegal during this international break.
Except for one thing … email.
It appears the Senegal national team governing association sent an email to Inter requesting they send Balde home to play for Senegal. The problem, Senegal sent the email to an old email address.
Inter management didn’t receive it and, despite Senegal calling and requesting Balde be released, the Nerazzurri have said no because the request came too late.
Senegal manager Aliou Cissé was not happy about the fact Inter would not release Balde and made his feelings known to African media.
“Inter? They could at least make an effort to get him [Balde] here. I have club presidents who call me to reach a consensus so that players arrive in camp one day late. We always experience that with the clubs,” Cissé said to Soka25east.com. “But here it’s our fault and we will not hide it. Next time we will try to do better. We tried to convince them to release him, they did not want to. They referred to the regulation, saying it was late.”
I imagine national teams will be double-checking their email lists from now on.
