What does Inter Milan do with its midfield?

There are options out there, but are the Nerazzurri willing to pay?

A lot has been said about the strong mercato Inter Milan has had this summer, but there are still pieces remaining to be set.

Getting players like Radja Nainggolan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Stefan De Vrij and others has been seen as a real coup for the Nerazzurri, but the team still needs to resolve its situation at right back and could use another midfielder to bolster the lineup.

Here’s a look at some options for Inter:

Chelsea v Manchester United - The Emirates FA Cup Final

Tiemoue Bakayoko

The French international and current Chelsea product has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge, but reports are that Inter are interested in his services.

The biggest problem, as are with many transfers this summer, is price. Chelsea collected Bakayoko for about €45 million and would like to somehow recoup that expense but Inter are pretty much locked into dealing with loan deals with purchase options next season.

So, Inter would have to structure a deal to Chelsea’s liking to pry Bakayoko away this summer, which seems unlikely, but possible.

One option is to swap Matias Vecino for Bakayoko, but would that really benefit Inter?

Brazil v Mexico: Round of 16 - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Hector Herrera

The Porto midfielder could also be on Inter’s radar this summer.

Herrera, also a Mexican international, had five goals and seven assists during Porto’s run in the Champions League last season. He also served as Porto’s captain during most of the season. Over his time with the Portuguese outfield, Herrera played in 192 matches, scoring 26 goals with 32 assists.

His agent said there have been no overtures made by Inter as of yet, but there could be:

”For the moment there have been no contacts with Inter. We’ll see what will happen this summer. It’s clear that Inter is a great club, any proposal will be analyzed and evaluated ,” said Matias Bunge, according to Calciomercato.com.

He does, however, hold a €40 million release clause, which could be too much of a burden for Inter to bear.

Sweden v Chile - International Friendly

Arturo Vidal

This link is nothing new as Inter apparently targeted the Bayern Munich midfielder during the last mercato.

Price is again a big component of this potential deal. Bayern have listed Vidal at around €30 million but Inter isn’t willing to spend more than about €24 million for the Chile international.

But, Vidal has both experience playing in Italy as well as Champions League experience, but whether the Nerazzurri are willing to spend that much is a big question.

Russia v Croatia: Quarter Final - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

Mateo Kovacic

Here is another player with tons of experience, but also with a hefty price tag to contend with.

He has a Champions League title, Supercopa and UEFA Cup title under his belt from last year with Real Madrid.

The Croatian international has solid ties to Inter with Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic, but Real Madrid will likely want somewhere in the neighborhood of €30 million to pry him away from Spain.

That said, bringing him back to Inter may be worth the cost.
