With a four point gap separating Inter from the 5th placed AC Milan, the Nerazzurri will be desperate to pick up points at the San Paolo in order to secure Champions League qualification next season.
For Napoli, however, this fixture is little more than an exhibition, with Juventus having already secured the Serie A title and the third-placed Inter having no possibility of catching up to them mathematically.
This means that all the pressure will be placed firmly on Inter come matchday, as any slip up that affords rivals AC Milan the chance to steal a Champions League qualification spot from the Nerazzurri would be almost unforgivable.
Inter Milan News (W-D-D-D-W)
After a routine 3-1 victory away at relegation bound Frosinone, Inter faced a tough test with back to back fixtures against AS Roma and Juventus, both of which ended in 1-1 draws. What followed was a disappointing goalless draw with Udinese, after which Inter returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Chievo.
Unfortunately, the gaps caused by injury in the Inter defense remain due to Sime Vrsaljko's knee problems, for which he has been ruled out for the season. Stefan de Vrij, despite playing last week, remains doubtful for Sunday's game due to his lingering thigh injury.
On the bright side, Inter's defence remains steadfast, conceding just three goals in their last five matches, despite a number of injury woes. The return of full back Danilo D'Ambrosio to action following suspension should also provide a boost in morale.
Moving onto the Nerazzurri's attacking midfield, and Matteo Politano remains a doubt for Sunday due to battling a minor ankle injury. Fortunately, the return of Marcelo Brozovic to action should see an increase in creative output from the middle of the park.
Up front, Inter's attack remains at full strength, with both club talisman Icardi and fellow Argentine Lautaro Martinez fit for selection. Having not scored since the 4-0 drubbing of Genoa away, Icardi will surely be itching to get on the scoresheet against Napoli in order to regain the favor of the Inter faithful.
Projected Lineup: Handanovic, Asamoah, Skriniar, Miranda, D'Ambrosio, Vecino, Brozovic, Perisic, Nainggolan, Candreva, Icardi
Napoli News (L-L-W-W-W)
After being dumped out of the Europa League quarter finals by Arsenal, Napoli's week went from bad to worse with a narrow 2-1 loss to Atalanta. Despite such poor form, Gli Azzurri managed to swiftly turn their fortunes around with a stellar 2-0 win over Frosinone, followed by 2-1 wins over both Cagliari and SPAL.
Napoli have suffered from a leaky defense as of late, with only one clean sheet being kept in their last 13 matches in all competitions. This is good news for Inter, who will hope to capitalize despite Politano's potential absence.
On the attack, Napoli have scored seven in their last five matches, however their record for the season is more impressive with a stellar 68 goals in 36 Serie A matches. With de Vrij's potential absence, the Nerazzurri will have to be extra diligent at the back when dealing with the likes of Insigne and Mertens.
With regards to injury news, Napoli are also almost at full strength, however first choice keeper Ospina remains a doubt due to personal reasons while center back Vlad Chiriches suffers from a dislocated shoulder. Center mid Amadou Diawara also remains doubtful with a foot injury.
Projected Team: Meret, Rui, Koulibaly, Maksimovic, Hysaj, Zielinski, Ruiz, Allan, Callejon, Mertens, Insigne
