There is a growing sentiment around Italian media that Antonio Conte and Inter Milan’s relationship could be beyond repair. The Serie A runners-up finished on 82 points and second place in the league after a 2-0 victory over Atalanta over the weekend.
The bizarre part came after the win, which should have been a more joyous occasion. In his post match interview, Antonio Conte decided to take out some frustration he has with the board.
“It has been a tough year on a personal level, very tough. I don’t think the players saw their work recognised and I don’t think I saw my work recognised.
“We all received very little protection from the club.
“We have to grow and improve in all areas, including off the field, and a big club should protect its players more. We’ll discuss it all at the end of the season. I have to meet the president (Steven Zhang) and he’s in China right now.”

There’s not really a chance that Conte is fired. With a €12m per season salary, there’s little shot that Inter decides to sack him. However, reports are growing that a mutual ending could be possible.
To be honest, I don’t know how to read this. Normally, I would say this will just blow over and the emotion and frustration that Conte feels will fade. However, he seemed deeply frustrated at the board. Time will tell, but right now this just feels odd.
