Inter has released a statement confirming reports of the creation of a Super League today.
FC Internazionale Milano agreed to establish – together with 11 Europe’s leading football clubs – a new mid-week competition, the Super League, governed by its Founding Clubs.
FC Internazionale Milano joined as Founding Club of the Super League together with AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Atlético de Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined as Founding Clubs. It is anticipated that a further three clubs will join ahead of the inaugural season, which is intended to commence as soon as practicable.
Inter will continue to play in domestic competition (Serie A) but UEFA has threatened to ban players from competition in UEFA and FIFA tournaments, possibly including Serie A. In short, this is a huge mess influenced by the greed of 12 clubs and looks certain to end in disaster one way or another.
We’ll have more on this as more info is released...
