While Inter’s new logo was already revealed last week, the biggest surprise was saved for this Wednesday. Inter’s 2020/21 (and possibly 2021/22) fourth kit has been officially released.

Here are images from the official team store.

The back is largely white, but naturally still has quite a lot going on. The player numbers are blue.

The explanation from the team website for this artwork is that is was inspired by Giorgio Muggiani, a painter who founded the club.

The I M collection represents the Club’s values of inclusiveness and brotherhood. With its interweaving of geometric shapes and a colour palette that includes yellow, white, black and blue, the aesthetics of the new kit is inspired by the visionary attitude of one of the club’s founders, the futurist artist Giorgio Muggiani, and recalls a vocation for inclusion, the same one that has always made Milan the most “international” city in Italy and guides Inter and Nike Football to make a difference every day, on and off the pitch, to bring about positive change not only in football but in sport in general.

Now that you’ve had time to process that visual assault (or maybe you’re still reeling like I am), let’s put on our jersey critic hat. For better or worse, it matches the leaks we’ve seen already with a collage of blue, yellow, and white in various designs. There is a common theme, though; it’s one ugly shirt. There’s a startling mish-mash of colors and designs. A blue circle, blue/black stripes, solid yellow, and the black Pirelli sponsor are just some of the many unique features. Still, it’s a jersey like no other and the first with Inter’s new logo, which is in gold for this jersey. More gold was a common request for possible improvements to the rebranding and it appears we’ve gotten our wish one way or another. I for one am a fan. Fourth kits aren’t supposed to be pretty or a designer’s finest work. Instead they seem more suited to catch the eye and be bought for shock value and this one succeeded at that if nothing else.

If you are feeling inclined to add it to your kit collection, Inter is happy to point you in the right direction.

The I M collection of FC Internazionale Milano and Nike will be available starting from 7 April on nike.com and in a second phase also at store.inter.it.

I for one am a fan. It’s a unique and crazy kit, but it’s Inter’s unique and crazy kit and that makes it stand out in more than just a visual sense.
