Inter’s weekend is only getting worse. After a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lazio Friday, news has come out today from Sky Sport Italia journalist Andrea Barzaghi that Romelu Lukaku picked up a thigh injury in training and will undergo further scans today to determine the extent of the injury. Gazzetta goes as far as saying the Belgian is certain to miss the derby as well, and is in doubt for Bayern Munich’s visit to the Meazza September 7th to kick off the Champions League campaign.
Though Lukaku has just one goal in three games (low for his standards), Simone Inzaghi doesn’t have an easy task ahead of him trying to replace the Chelsea-loanee. Edin Dzeko is the obvious option but his awful form to start the season makes that a very unappealing choice. Joaquin Correa has had success against Milan when he’s started with Lautaro (see: Coppa Italia semifinal second leg). Personally I’d go with Dzeko against Cremonese and Correa in the derby, but we’ll see what Inzaghi has in mind.
Get well soon, Rom!
