The first real answer to Inter’s striker question might be on the way. According to reports, Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram is just about an Inter player after agreeing to a free agent deal of a 5-year contract on €6m net per season. The 25-year-old also had interest from PSG, RB Leipzig, and most notably Milan, but has decided on Inter, who need at least 2 new strikers to replace Edin Dzeko and possibly Romelu Lukaku (not to mention Joaquin Correa, but offloading him is easier said than done).
Thuram ended the 2022/23 season with 16 goals and 7 assists in 32 appearances, including a career-high 13 Bundesliga strikes. He looks like a strong fit for Inter’s 2 striker formation, and although clinicalness isn’t one of his biggest strengths (which means he fits in even better with Inter’s current striker group), a Lautaro-Thuram partnership could be quite a headache for opposing defenses.
Inter also is nearing a deal for Cesar Azpilicueta who will terminate his Chelsea contract and help fill the Milan Skriniar-sized gap on the Nerazzurri’s backline. If rumors are to be believed, the 34-year-old will be joined by 22-year-old Yann Bisseck as Inter’s defensive reinforcements in a 2-for-1 Skriniar replacement. These additions are further examples of Beppe Marotta’s skill on the free agent market, but any bigger moves will have to wait thanks to the still-shaky financial situation at the club.
