Inter’s 2023/24 Champions League group-stage opponents are confirmed. The Nerazzurri will be in Group D alongside Benfica, RB Salzburg, and Real Sociedad. While none of those are big-name clubs and Inter will be favored to advance, this is far from an easy group for Simone Inzaghi’s men. Benfica and Salzburg were both respective champions of the Portuguese and Austrian leagues last season, the former of which also fell 3-5 to Inter in the UCL quarterfinals. Real Sociedad can’t be overlooked either, as it finally managed to return to Europe’s biggest stage after an almost 10-year wait by finishing fourth in a highly competitive La Liga.
All three of those sides have their own very distinct style of play that they fully trust in, much like Inter, so this group will be full of quite tactical matchups. No team really stands out as the dominating force either, so it could be fun for the neutral. From an Inter perspective, though, this is a lot better than it could have been (see: PSG, Dortmund, Milan, Newcastle) and a third-straight Round of 16 appearance should be expected.
Here are the rest of the groups.
Group A - Bayern, Manchester United, Copenhagen, Galatasaray
Group B - Sevilla, Arsenal, PSV, Lens
Group C - Napoli, Real Madrid, Braga, Union Berlin
Group E - Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Celtic
Group F - PSG, Dortmund, Milan, Newcastle
Group G - Man City, Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys
Group H - Barcelona, Porto, Shakhtar, Antwerp
