FC Basel defender Fabian Schar has spoken in the past about wanting to leave his team to play for a bigger club and now it seems that Inter is his choice. In an interview, Schar stated that "Inter are a top club, perfect. That would be an ideal destination."
Mancini had previously talked about looking into getting another defender and now a pretty good one is offering himself to the team. His market value is listed at €8 million euros, but his contract is also expiring at the end of the season and it looks like the Swiss international has no intentions of signing an extension to stay at Basel.
So if the club is interested in Schar (which they should be) they are left with a dilemma. Try to sign him now and work out a fee with Basel or wait till the summer and get him on a free transfer (which would mostly avoid dealing with FFP but leaves the possibility of him getting stolen from Inter).
After his impressive play in the World Cup with Switzerland, a few other clubs (a major one being Arsenal) are looking at signing the 23-year-old. But maybe having his international teammate in Shaqiri at Inter will be enough to make Schar want to fend off the other interested parties and come to Appiano Gentile.
