Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi was robbed after Saturday's win against Genoa, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Milanese outlet reported that Icardi was parking his Hummer just after midnight on Viale Elvezia - opposite Milan's Arena Civica - when he was approached by two men demanding money.
Gazzetta reports that Icardi indeed offered all the cash he had on hand and that the two unidentified men were armed with a pistol. After pocketing Icardi's cash, the thieves also reportedly took his watch and promptly fled the scene on a motorbike.
The Daily Mail speculated that the watch in question was the same new £29,000 Hublot timepiece of which Icardi had posted a photo on Instagram a couple of weeks ago.
According to the police report, Icardi was not harmed during the confrontation, and a formal complaint has been made to the police in Milan. As of Sunday, the police were still looking for new leads.
As someone who has personally been a victim of a house burglary, I can tell you firsthand that being the victim of a robbery makes one feel terrified and extremely violated - regardless of whether it's a holdup or a smash-and-grab.
While it may be a little hard for the average person to identify with having a £29,000 custom watch stolen right off his/her wrist, we as the Inter community should keep Icardi in our thoughts and hope that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
