Forza Italian Football has reported (via La Nazione) that Inter have recently been linked with Fiorentina striker Mario Gómez, and the Nerazzurri could try to steal him away from the Viola should they to choose cash in on Mauro Icardi's high selling price this summer.
The 29-year-old Gómez was once a force for both Bayern Munich and the German national team, but his performance lately has been patchy at best, especially this season with Fiorentina. But, to be fair, the German target man has been hampered by a knee injury this season, and has still managed to score 9 goals and provide 4 assists in all competitions. I think personally it is just hard to latch on to the idea of him becoming Inter's top striker – especially when compared with Icardi, the beacon of hope for Inter's future.
It must also be stressed that this transfer rumor is mere speculation at this point, as we can assume that no contact has actually been made between the player's agent or the clubs. This rumor also assumes that Fiorentina would be willing to let Gómez go, which is not at all a certainty.
