Sempre Inter (via Gianluco Di Marzio) have just reported that Inter have made another offer to keeper Samir Handanovic in an effort to nail down his contract extension with the club.
Di Marzio sent a tweet yesterday evening which contained the supposed details of the aforementioned offer, saying essentially, "Here is Inter's offer for renewal":
According to this tweet, Inter have increased their offer to €2.5 million net per year and have apparently increased the length of the contract as well.
It's important to keep in mind, however, that Handanovic's contract does not expire at the end of the current season, but at the end of the next one. It seems likely to me that the Slovenian shot-stopper will reject Inter's current offer in order to keep his options open. If Inter have another mid-table finish in Serie A next season, Handanovic could seek greener pastures (and, could you really blame him?) and would have much more mobility if he was unhampered by a recent contract renewal.
I have to admit it's nice to see the Nerazzurri shot-callers actually putting some semblance of effort into the retainment of one of their most important players, but I'm not sure this particular effort will be enough to convince the world-class Handanovic to stay at a club that is mired in mid-table mediocrity.
