Everybody had high expectations when Podolski's arrival was announced, even if it was on loan and for only half-season. At Arsenal he didn't start a match this season, and it was a bit surprising since he did pretty well in his previous years with the Gunners: in 2012/13 he made 31 EPL appereances scoring 11 goals and assisting 9 teammates and the following season he played 20 EPL matches with 8 goals and 2 assists.
Saying he has been bad so far it may be reductive because in 11 Serie A games played - 8 started - he didn't score a single goal or helped a teammate scoring one and, in addition to this, he shot the ball 19 times, but only 3 of them were on target. That said, it's not a surprising news hearing that he is already talking about his future far from Milan.
Gianluca di Marzio reported that the German is confident about the fact he will be a starter next season at Arsenal and that a bad year doesn't affect him in any way. Here his words:
When I return to London I believe I'll have the chance to start, I still have one year on my contract, let's see what happens. At Arsenal I had two great seasons, scoring many goals and getting numerous assists. This year things didn't go well so I changed teams: but now I feel ready. The fact that I didn't score in Italy so far isn't a problem for me, I have been in football for a long time.
Podolski arrived this January on loan with a €600k loan fee. He will return to Arsenal this July.
