Barcelona's Montoya open to Inter Milan

After falling down the pecking order at Barcelona, Montoya is looking for more consistent playing time and Inter can offer that.

I think most Inter fans can agree that the defense is something Mancini needs to prioritize this transfer market, and while Jeison Murillo will be arriving to help out at centerback, the full-back position could also do with some work. That is why news of Barcelona's Martin Montoya potentially moving to Inter will be met with some optimism.

The 24 year old only made 8 league appearances (and 12 overall) for the Spanish side. While this was certainly disappointing for him, the player (and his agent) expected him to take over a starting position next season given that Dani Alves was expected to leave the club. Once Alves signed a new contract with the club, his starting opportunity seemed to be gone. Barcelona did not help Montoya feel welcome given their signing of Aleix Vidal, a right winger/full-back from Sevilla. Though Vidal will not be able to play for the club until January Montoya's place in the squad was looking much less secure.

Montoya's agent spoke to the press and said that they will be speaking with representatives from Barcelona soon, but his priority is that Montoya gets more consistent playing time as a starter. Since this looks pretty unlikely his agent is already angling for a move away and said, "Inter would be a welcome destination, especially if he'd be used as a regular starter".

Liverpool are also reported to be looking at Montoya but it seems like Inter currently have the edge over the English side. Inter are believed to be asking for a loan with an option to buy at the end of next season for something around €10m.
