Gabriel Barbosa signs for Inter

Still not doing it, I’m still not going to use that nickname.

Part two of Suning’s big summer moves is official. Inter has just announced that Gabriel Barbosa has signed a contract with Inter on his 20th birthday.

He will be joining with the club following the international break, rather than in January as had been suggested earlier. The deal is believed to be worth around €28m, and his contract ties him to Inter until June 2021.

I’ve always been a little skeptical about this deal but now that he’s here I wish him nothing but the best of luck. The game in Italy is very different than anywhere else in the world (Frank De Boer can tell him all about that) and expectations should be dampened to a reasonable figure for this first season. If he can adapt to Serie A and score a good number of goals (let’s say 10?) in his maiden campaign I’d be happy with that start. If he scores more than 15, maybe I’ll actually start calling him Gabigol.
