Where: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Milan, Italy

Football is back – finally! After what seemed to be an endless international break, the Nerazzurri return to action tomorrow night when they host 10th place Sampdoria at the San Siro.

Fifteen days separated Inter’s 2-2 away draw to Torino with Monday’s match, so let’s hope the players can avoid showing any signs of rust, as the club can ill-afford to drop more points against inferior teams.

It’s been a mixed bag lately for Sampdoria. With two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five league matches, the Genoese club is very much in “mid-table” form. Roma, Lazio, and Atalanta all won this weekend, but Milan (to Pescara!) Juventus, and Napoli dropped points, so this will be a big match for Inter.

Inter captain Mauro Icardi is set to make his 150th league appearance on Monday. Sampdoria is, of course, where he made his debut in 2012, so let’s hope Mauro can score a goal (or more) against his former club.

Team News

Injuries are always a risk coming off of an international break, but thankfully Stefano Pioli will have the full squad at his disposal on Monday.

The same cannot be said for Sampdoria manager Marco Giampaolo, who will be without the services of top goal scorer Luis Muriel. Muriel picked up an injury in Colombia’s 1-0 win over Bolivia in World Cup 2018 qualifying. You never want to see talented player miss time due to injury, but the absence of Sampdoria’s biggest offensive threat is welcome news for Inter.

Probable Starting XIs

Inter (4-2-3-1): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Medel, Miranda, Ansaldi; Gagliardini, Kondogbia; Candreva, Joao Mario, Perisic; Icardi

Sampdoria (4-3-1-2): Viviano; Sala, Silvestre, Skriniar, Regini; Linetty, Torreira, Barreto; Fernandes; Schick, Quagliarella
