It certainly wasn’t for a lack of opportunities.

Inter Milan has 17 shots — three of which were on target — but just as it seemed it would go for naught, Mauro Icardi came through with a header past Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 92nd minute to give Inter the 1-0 win in the first Derby della Madonnina of the season.

The win also kept Inter’s unbeaten streak alive at seven matches dating back to the Champions League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

The goal came as both teams slugged out for the previous 91 minutes, with a pair of goals — one for each team — called back for offsides — and seven yellow cards between the two teams.

While there was plenty of drama as Radja Nainggolan was forced out of the game after a second challenge took him down in the first half.

In the second half, Lucas Biglia nearly won the match … for Inter … as he attempted a back-pass to Donnarumma who nearly misplayed it right into the back of the net.

Inter had their opportunities in the match with a first goal by Icardi waived off by the video-assisted referee after Matias Vecino had initially touched the ball before Icardi, thus making Icardi offside when he headed home the goal in the first half.

For 80 more minutes, neither team was able to find much momentum until Vecino laid in a brilliant cross that Icardi headed home in extra time.

The win keeps Inter in third in the league, two points back of Napoli and six back of league-leading Juventus.

The Nerazzurri enter into a difficult part of their schedule with a trip to Camp Nou and a matchup with Barcelona in the Champions League will be Oct. 24 followed by a road trip to Lazio on Oct. 29.
