A deal to bring midfielder Nicolo Barella to Inter Milan from Cagliari seems to be close to being finalized, according to Calciomercato.com.
The website reported that Inter is working to lower the €50 million price tag Cagliari have on its star midfielder by tossing players in the deal.
The interesting part of the deal is the player Inter Milan is offering isn’t even on the roster.
That’s because the teams are working with Boca Juniors to bring Nahitan Nandez to Inter, then to Cagliari while Cagliari will send Barella to Inter. Nandez has a price tag of approximately €20 million, which would lower the price Inter would have to pay for Barella.
Boca Juniors’ officials apparently landed in Milan today to discuss a deal to bring Nandez to Inter. Following that, Cagliari president Tomasso Giulini will meet with the directors of Boca Juniors, presumably to finish the deal.
Barella is a rising star with Cagliari and this season he has a goal in 19 Serie A matches he has played.
Because of his talent, he was scouted by AC Milan, Chelsea, Juventus and AS Roma leading into the January transfer window. Atletico Madrid had attempted to purchase Barella last season, but Giulini refused to sell.
Recently, Barella made his fourth appearance for the Italy’s national team after making his debut last year.
