A pair of goals from captain Regina Baresi was enough for the Inter Milan women, but they wanted more.

And they got it as Gloria Marinelli, Alice Regazzoli, Elisa Carravetta and Fabiana Costi added goals to lead ASD Femminile Inter Milano to a 6-1 victory over Roma XIV in Rome Sunday.

The win kept Inter atop Serie B on 36 points for the season.

But, the match didn’t start the way one might have thought after Roma’s Emily Nicosia fired the home side in front two minutes into the match.

But, 18 minutes later, it was Marinelli who leveled the match after Regazzoli found her right foot.

Roma’s defense held Inter for the rest of the first half despite chances from Regazzoli and Costi in the latter stages of the period.

In the second half, Sebastian De La Fuente’s side came alive as Costi found the back of the net in the 53rd minute.

Regazzoli nearly added another in the 59th minute, but her effort rattled the post. However, in the 60th, she left little to question as her attempt found the back of the net off Silvia Pisano’s cross and put Inter up 3-1.

The fourth goal came in the 80th minute when Marta Pandini played a deep cross into Baresi, who drilled a shot home, putting the Nerazzurre up 4-1.

Baresi hit pay dirt in the 85th minute off a cross from Beatrice Merlo.

In the 91st minute, Carravetta earned a spot on the score sheet with a goal to give Inter Milan the 6-1 win.

Inter Milan have a firm grip in first in Serie B, 11 points clear of their next opponent, Empoli. They will host the Empoli Ladies on Sunday.
