Atalanta has assigned a price tag for any team interested in taking one of its forwards during the summer transfer window.
According to Calciomercato, Duvan Zapata will cost teams upward of €50 million if they want to sign him during the offseason.
Zapata, who is close to Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, AC Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek and Sampdoria’s Fabio Quagliarella for Serie A’s capocananiere prize has amassed 21 goals and six assists in 32 appearances for Atalanta this season.
Inter Milan have reportedly been tracking the Colombian since January and could add the 28-year-old forward to its attacking options.
Premier League sides West Ham United and Newcastle United have also expressed interest in Zapata. However, a €50 million transfer fee would likely knock both of those clubs out of contention.
The biggest question for Inter is whether Mauro Icardi remains with the club after the season. The Italian media has been rife with speculation that the Nerazzurri will part ways with the Argentinian following a month-long mess where Icardi elected not to play for the club after losing his captaincy.
But, if you believe recent comments from Icardi’s wife, Wanda Nara, Icardi does plan to be at the Giuseppe Meazza next season, limiting the needs of the Nerazzurri.
However, adding an additional attacking option, if the club qualifies for the Champions League next season — Inter currently sits in third in the league, enough for that qualification.
But, €50 million may be too high a price to pay for just an option. That would be money better spent on bolstering the midfield and bringing on a secondary attacking option … not a primary one, which Zapata would be looking for.
According to Transfermarkt, Zapata’s market value is at €35 million.
