Inter Milan primavera sweep Derby della Madonnina with 4-2 win Saturday

Nerazzurri battle from a goal down to score three unanswered.

Facing a 2-1 deficit, the Inter Milan primavera squad rattled off three unanswered goals in the second half to dispatch of AC Milan, 4-2 to sweep their cross-town rivals in the Derby della Madonnina.

Goals from Facundo Colidio, Davide Merola and Sebastiano Esposito in the second half were enough for Armando Madonna’s crew to take their second win from AC Milan this season.

”It was a difficult match, Milan are a side who play well and create different chances,” Madonna said, after the match. “We found ourselves behind but I fortunately have players who don’t give up and with the quality needed to turn it around and that’s what happened.”

Inter drew first blood in the 21st minute when Eddie Salcedo buried home a strong left-footed effort. The goal came after Salcedo’s penalty shot was saved, but Colidio found the ball and crossed back in to Salcedo, who finished with the effort.

“After the penalty save, I stopped for a moment and then saw the ball coming in from Colidio and I got to it and breathed a sigh of relief,” Salcedo said, following the match.

The Nerazzurri had an opportunity to double its lead, but Thomas Schiro’s effort was pushed aside by AC Milan goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari in the 38th minute.

The Rossoneri tied the match in the 42nd minute when Marco Brescianini drilled a free kick past the outstretched arms of Vladan Dekic.

After the break, AC Milan asserted control of the match with a goal from Gabriele Capanni in the 48th minute. Capanni was set up for the goal with a ball in from Luigi Sala.

But, Inter was quick to respond.

In the 48th minute, Colidio banged home an equalizer off a cross from Lorenzo Gavioli and was able to flick the ball home from the inside post.

The Nerazzurri took its second lead of the match in the 59th minute when Merola – who came of the bench – was taken down in the area and awarded a penalty. He was able to step up and covert the spot kick to put Inter up 3-2.

Inter got its fourth goal from Esposito – who also came off the bench – who beat Plizzari with a free kick from just outside the area in the 86th minute.

“The strength of my squad is also on the bench, everyone is showing that they’re ready and it makes things easier,” Madonna said “The guys show that they have a sense of belonging every day and I’m very happy with this.”

With the win, Inter’s primavera keep pace with Atalanta, who sit atop the league on 51 points. Inter are second with 46 points. AC Milan, on the other hand, are second-to-last in the league with 22 points.

Inter return to action on April 19 when they travel to face Napoli followed by a home match with Genoa on April 27.
