And so it begins

The first round of World Cup Qualifiers have yet to begin but the infamous injury bug is already running rampant. Reports out of Argentine (via Radio La Red and TNT Sports Argentina) claim that Lautaro Martinez will miss the Copa America champion’s visit to Paraguay tonight. He picked up a slight muscular knock in training and is on the shelf to avoid a more serious injury.

From an Argentina perspective, the race is on for Lautaro to regain full strength ahead of home games against Uruguay on Sunday and Peru in a week’s time. For now, Joaquin Correa is expected to take over the starting role for Lionel Scaloni’s side as it looks to keep hold of second place in CONMEBOL’s ten-team WCQ group.

Lautaro already has five goals in six Serie A appearances for Inter this season as he takes ownership of the striker role at the San Siro. The 24-year-old will be relied on heavily in Inter’s first week of games after the break when the Nerazzurri travel to Lazio and Sheriff Tiraspol before hosting Juventus Sunday (yeah that’s gonna be a busy seven days).

Get well soon Lautaro!
