Alessandro Bastoni Suspended Two Games, Picks up Ankle Sprain

Not great!

As is the case with most big games in Serie A, a lot of the post-game talk centers around refereeing. That was no different in last weekend’s derby, with everything from fines to suspensions getting handed out left and right by the league. It looks like Alessandro Bastoni got the worst of the deal. The Italian has been handed a two-game ban for insulting one of the referee’s assistants. Simone Inzaghi was also given a one-game ban, while Lautaro Martinez picked up a €10,000 fine. According to the man himself, all he said was “you were rubbish.” Hardly worth a yellow, let alone a two-game ban. Alas, it looks like that might not matter as much anymore. Bastoni exited yesterday’s Coppa Italia quarterfinal in the first half with what has been announced as an ankle sprain. There’s no word yet on how long he could be out, but depending on the severity it may be a couple of weeks.

MILAN - Alessandro Bastoni was forced off in Inter’s 2-0 win over Roma and this morning underwent tests which have confirmed that he has sprained his right ankle.

The player’s fitness will be re-evaluated in the coming days.

Though he’ll miss league fixtures against Napoli and Sassuolo no matter what (unless Inter appeal), let’s hope Bastoni is back in time for next Wednesday’s UCL knockout round clash with Liverpool.

Get well soon Alessandro!
