Inter’s 1-0 win over RB Salzburg last week decided more than just a spot in the Champions League Round of 16 for Inter. Simone Inzaghi’s men also confirmed their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Inter’s qualification to the UCL knockout stage earned it sufficient points to be one of the 8 highest-ranked clubs in UEFA over a four-year period (2021-24), thus giving it one of UEFA’s 12 berths in the CWC alongside UCL winners Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Man City and Bayern Munich through the ranking. There will be 32 teams total from around the world, split into eight groups of four with the top two advancing. Action is set to begin in the US in June of 2025 and last for a month.

Here’s the full list of teams currently confirmed to participate, with 17 to go.

  • Inter (ITA)
  • Manchester City (ENG)
  • Chelsea (ENG)
  • Real Madrid (ESP)
  • Bayern Munich (GER)
  • Flamengo (BRA)
  • Palmeiras (BRA)
  • Fluminense (BRA)
  • Monterrey (MEX)
  • Leon (MEX)
  • Seattle Sounders (USA)
  • Wydad Casablanca (MOR)
  • Al Ahly (EGYP)
  • Al Hilal (KSA)
  • Urawa Reds (JPN)

This will give North America-based Interisti (such as yours truly) a chance to see our beloved club up close, although the exact host cities have yet to be determined. Furthermore, it’s a sign of just how incredible the work done by Simone Inzaghi has been. Inter is now one of the top teams in Europe both at home and abroad, and a large part of it is thanks to him. Of course, the players have been pretty dang good too, and Beppe Marotta’s dealing and wheeling sure helps. In fact, the entire club has a lot to be proud of and the Club World Cup is another opportunity for the Nerazzurri to make some noise on the big stage.
