Two matches, two wins, and six points for Inter Milan on the season. A victory away to Lecce and another at home against Spezia have Inter on a perfect start. This start will be tested on Friday when Inter visit Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Last season’s meeting between these two teams in Rome did not go so well for the Nerazzurri, who will be looking for revenge this season.

This past weekend’s trip to Turin to face Torino did not go to plan for the Biancocelesti, playing out a 0-0 draw. However, Lazio will be welcoming back presumed first-choice keeper Luis Maximiano after a nightmare debut in which the 23-year-old earned a red card within the first six minutes of the year
Lazio have some new faces this season that Interisti will find familiar. Matias Vecino made the switch to the Rome-based club in the summer on a free to reunite with Sarri after the two worked together at Empoli. In defense, one of Romelu Lukaku’s favorite opposing defenders, Alessio Romagnoli, swapped the Rossonero side of Milan for Lazio. Two more storylines on top of an already interesting matchup.

Inter’s first two matches of the season did not produce the most beautiful football, but Simone Inzaghi has managed to steer his team to victory at both times of asking. Both Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez have found the back of the net, which is a great sign for this team’s attack. Denzel Dumfries has also emerged as a serious threat from the right side. Milan Skriniar looked better against Spezia and Stefan de Vrij has shown signs of possibly shaking off last season’s struggles. All the pieces and signs are there for Inter to continue to improve as the matches come.
Inzaghi will have a full squad at his disposal. With no injuries and some refreshed depth thanks to the summer transfer window, it will be interesting to see whether or not rotations are made to the team with another match to come on Tuesday against Cremonese.

Prediction: Lazio 1-3 Inter
Lukaku has had success against both Patric and Romagnoli, so this may be a game for Inter’s number 90 to thrive. However, Inter could face issues with the pace of Manuel Lazzarri up against Federico Dimarco. Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are also usually good or two for a goal against Inter, so watch for them to try to make this a tight affair. Overall, Inter’s quality in attack and defense should be able to see them through this match.
Forza Inter!
