In its second iteration of You Pick, the Serpents community gave their thoughts on who Luciano Spalletti should be starting when Inter Milan squares off with AS Roma tonight at the Stadio Olimpico.

There weren’t too many surprises in what you all suggested.

Formation

About 66 percent of you elected to keep the 4-2-3-1 formation that has been the Nerazzurri’s reliable formation. Interestingly enough there were about 26 percent of the community who felt a lone striker formation (4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3) would be better suited against Roma.

Goalkeeper

Really, this shouldn’t even be on this because there is no question who the net-minder for Inter should be … Danie .. er, no. Of course, Samir Handanovic gets the nod and 100 percent of you agreed.

Defense

For most Interisti, the defense has been where most of the doubt and question during the off-season has been. Yuto Nagatomo had a good first half last week against Fiorentina, but went back to his old ways of being dispossessed and careless. While there were some who felt Nagatomo would get the nod, 72 percent of the community felt newly-signed defender Dalbert should get the start on the left.

On the right, Danilo D’Ambrosio was solid enough last week to not let Fiorentina’s depleted attack give Handanovic much trouble. A majority (76 percent) felt he should start on the right against Roma, but new signee Joao Cancelo did draw some support.

In the center there was a tie. Joao Miranda did a good job against the Viola, but so did Milan Skriniar. This would actually be a coin-toss for us as well. Both could keep Roma from coming up the middle.

Midfield

Assuming Spalletti sticks with three midfielders then Joao Mario should earn the start along with Borja Valero and Matias Vecino. Honestly, that is about as potent a midfield as we could see. Toss in the possibility of Roberto Gagliardini being thrown into the mix and that should provide solid competition for Radja Nainggolan. Valero impressed the community last week against his old club, but Roma will provide a more solid test of his leadership and pace on the field.

The trio of Ivan Perisic, Antonio Candreva and Mauro Icardi gave Fiorentina fits in the first half last week and could be looked upon to do the same thing this week against Roma. The three didn’t seem to miss a beat. Will Icardi score a double against Roma? Hard to say, but when you have the rest of the cast as dangerous as Perisic and Candreva as well as bringing Éder off the bench, anything is possible.

You’ve had your say. Forza Inter!
