Report: Sánchez/Dzeko Swap?

A transfer rumor at long last

It's been a quiet January transfer window so far, but even possibly soon to be sold Inter can’t escape the transfer rumor tornado. The Nerazzurri are reportedly on the hunt for a solution to its striker problems and may have an answer in Roma’s Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian has fallen out with head coach Paulo Foncesca and amid Borja Mayoral’s uptick in form, lost his starting role. According to Sky Sport Italia, Alexis Sánchez would be going the other way. Both players would be on six-month loans and return to their parent clubs in June.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the two sides are in “direct contact”, but it’s not a simple deal.

34-year-old Dzeko hasn’t been at his best this season, though still boasts very respectable numbers. He’s scored 8 goals in 19 games across Serie A and Europe League. Age is catching up to him, but as a backup to Lukaku he’d do a more than ample job. That’s a role that’s currently unfilled, while Perisic or Pinamonti could replace Sánchez as a Lautaro backup. The Chilean has struggled with injury this season, missing out on 8 games so far. In 17 appearances, he has 2 goals and 2 assists. But Sánchez is one of the only Inter players that feels comfortable taking opponents on, a skill that wouldn’t be replaced by Dzeko. On the other hand, a Lukaku back up is a must, and Dzeko knows the league even if he isn’t at his best anymore.
