Ranking Inter’s Ten Best Goals of the 2021/22 Season

The Nerrazurri gave us a lot to choose from but 10 goals stood out from the rest

Goals came thick and fast for Inter this season. Simone Inzaghi’s side found the back of the net 107 times from 21 different players. I looked at all 107 goals and did my best at ranking them, though Inter sure didn’t make it easy to sort through its innumerable ‘golazos’.

Honorary mentions - Joaquin Correa vs Udinese, Ivan Perisic @ Bologna, Marcelo Brozovic @ Sherrif, Brozovic vs Roma

10 - Federico Dimarco @ Sampdoria

We start with a peach of a free kick from Dimarco’s wicked left foot into the upper ninety with as clean a strike you’ll find.

9 - Edin Dzeko vs Sheriff Tiraspol (Champions League)

A weak-footed volley into the top corner is always a lock for the top ten, especially when it comes in a moment as crucial as Inter’s UCL knockout stage clinching win.

8 - Hakan Calhanoglu vs Juventus (Coppa Italia)

It’s exceedingly rare to see a penalty anywhere near a goals of the season list but Calhanoglu’s rocket into the upper ninety against Juventus in the Coppa Italia was the best spot kick I’ve ever seen and came at a crucial moment - Inter was down 2-1 with ten minutes to go. Seriously, I don’t know how he got that much power on it without sending the ball into the Tiber.

7 - Hakan Calhanoglu vs Cagliari

Calhanoglu is a repeat entrant thanks to a long-range blast against Cagliari that left Cragno with no chance.

6 - Alexis Sanchez vs Roma (Coppa Italia)

Sanchez did his Turkish counterpart one better, albeit with a very similar strike. The pace and power on the Chilean’s goal gives it a slight edge.

5 - Lautaro vs Atalanta/Milan

Lautaro sure loves his volleys. His classic thump into the top corner is becoming a common sight and earned him a spot in the top five. El Toro’s goals against Milan and Atalanta are almost identical so they get a joint induction.

4 - Hakan Calhanoglu @ AS Roma

Calhanoglu is back with an Olimpico at the Olimpico.

3 - Nicolo Barella vs Juventus (Coppa Italia)

Barella wasn’t his usual self this season but he still made more than a mark with this beauty to open the scoring against Juve in the Coppa Italia.

2 - Lautaro Martinez @ Liverpool (Champions League)

Lautaro went the entire UCL group stage without scoring only to tally Inter’s only goal in the knockout round with this scorcher at Anfield. Ultimately it wasn’t enough to turn the deficit around, but it showed El Toro at his best on the biggest stage.

1 - Andrea Ranocchia vs Empoli (Coppa Italia)

Is this slightly biased by the Frog likely leaving Inter at the end of the season? Maybe. Is this also an incredible goal that saved the Nerazzurri from Coppa Italia elimination? For sure. Who knew Ranocchia was hiding a bicycle kick up his sleeve all this time?
