With just about 50 days to go until the opening matchday, Serie A has announced its fixture list for the upcoming season. Game One is set for August 14th and sees Inter travel to newly-promoted Lecce, while the campaign ends June 4th with Inter away to Torino. The league will start earlier and end later than usual thanks to the 2022 World Cup and the two-month-long break it entails from November 14th to January 4th. There are also two international breaks, one on the weekend of September 24th and one on the 25th of March. The Champions League group stage dates are 6/7 September (Matchday 1), 13/14 September (Matchday 2), 4/5 October (Matchday 3), 11/12 October (Matchday 4), 25/26 October (Matchday 5), and 1/2 November (Matchday 6).

Here’s a full list of the schedule.

At first glance, the schedule looks fairly balanced, with an even mix of big teams and smaller teams throughout the year. An opening day clash with Lecce brings back memories of the 2019/20 debut. Lazio on Matchday 3 is the first real test. The derbies against Milan come on Matchday 5 and 21, while the Derby d’Italia is on the 13th and 27th day of the season. Though Inter plays multiple top 7 teams in October, November, and April, the toughest month is the season is by far May, which features clashes against Verona, Roma, Sassuolo, Napoli, and Atalanta. And as if that wasn’t enough, the season ends with a trip to Ivan Juric’s Torino who took points off a number of big teams last year.

Preseason begins in just a few weeks, but obviously for now the main focus is on the rapidly approaching opening of the transfer market on July 1st.
